A Unit Investment Trust Fund (UITF) is an open-ended pooled trust fund denominated in pesos or any acceptable currency, which is operated and administered by a trust entity and made available by participation. Each UITF product is governed by a Declaration of Trust (or Plan Rules) which contains the investment objectives of the  UITF as well as the mechanics for investing, operating and administering the fund. Most UITFs are considered medium to long term investments. Clients considering to invest in UITFs must have the financial resources to stay invested in them for a reasonable period of time in order to maximize earnings potentials. If the funds to be invested will be needed by the client in the immediate future, the UITFs may not be a suitable investment vehicle for such client. - source http://www.uitf.com.ph
mutual fund is a type of professionally managed collective investment scheme that pools money from many investors to purchase securities. While there is no legal definition of the term "mutual fund", it is most commonly applied only to those collective investment vehicles that are regulated and sold to the general public. excerpts from

Halos wala pala silang pinagkaiba, both have different type of investment which differs on risk profile of each investor. Kung ano ang mas maganda sa kanila? Looking at the returns on both, hindi naman sila nagkakalayo. So it will really depend sa iyo kung saan ka mas komportable mag-invest. O kung saan ka mas madaling makakapag-invest.

It works basically same with UITF so all you need to learn about UITF ay pwede mo na makuha sa video na ito.

UITF PERFORMANCE in the Philippines for first quarter of 2014 from pinoymoneytalk.com

(1st Quarter 2014) Return on Mutual Funds in the Philippines from pinoymoneytalk.com

Based on my research and personal experience, investing in pooled funds is much better than investing in stock market directly. Though if you want high-yielding investment, directly investing in stock market is much good but more risky. But here is what I learned, more knowledge will eliminate risk, so if you are new in investing, start with pooled funds first and as you gain knowledge you can start investing small amounts on stock market. In that way you minimize the risk.

Just keep on learning.
